Our treatments together may include the following modalities:

Acupuncture.

Practiced for thousands of years, acupuncture describes the art of inserting very thin and flexible needles into the skin along specific energy pathways in the body.  Acupuncture helps to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and to increase endorphin release. Chinese medicine believes that stagnation in our energy pathways - known as meridians - leads to disease, so points chosen serve to de-stagnate these pathways, making acupuncture ideal for regulating nearly every system our mighty bodies employ!

Because Chinese medicine treats the root of the problem, seemingly unrelated symptoms such as ear ringing, night sweats, low libido, and tendency toward fearfulness can be treated under one diagnosis.  Even if you are coming in for a specific complaint, the positive effects you'll feel are widespread.

Chinese Herbal Therapy.

Herbal formulas can add longevity to our work together.  The Chinese herbal catalog consists of thousands of natural species, and formulas can therefore be catered to you specifically - taking your constitution and every symptom into consideration.  Herbal formulas provide a safe, non-pharmaceutical approach to healing, and aim to remedy the root of the issue rather than simply mask symptoms.  Examples of cases that typically respond well to herbs are women's health issues, anxiety, depression and allergies.

Dietary Counseling.

Hippocrates wrote "Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food."  Proper nutritional intake is of utmost importance in the healing process.  We are inundated with hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, and fluoride in this age of "convenience."  My dietary consultations evaluate the burden of toxicity on your system and propose solutions for healthier choices.  If you suffer from digestive discomfort, chronic fatigue syndrome, or headaches, dietary changes and nutritional therapy can help!

Nutrition Response Testing.

Nutrition Response Testing utilizes applied kinesiology (also known as muscle testing) to uncover stressors in the body.  Once stressors are determined, whole-food nutritional supplements are introduced to restore the body's natural and effective recovery system.  Nutrition Response Testing is gentle and precise, and is used to access and remedy the root cause of tricky issues -- even those that have been unresponsive to other methods.  It is good for all ages, for all issues of ill health.

Cupping and Gua Sha.

Cupping aims to pull stagnant blood out of the tissues so that new fluids and blood can circulate to the area and repair old injury.  It is great for overall muscle tension, especially of the back and neck.  Gua sha is a scraping technique that translates to "release evil."  It provides an outlet for stagnation in the tissues, and is wonderful for treating allergies, sore throats, neck and shoulder knots, and impending cold and flu type illness.

Depending on the degree of stagnation, both modalities can leave bruise-like marks on the skin for up to a week.  It is best to keep the area covered and to avoid showering and swimming for several hours after treatment.  Many patients describe cupping and gua sha as feeling like a deep tissue massage.

General Info.

While most patients notice some difference after just one treatment, the effects of acupuncture are cumulative and results grow stronger with time.  I recommended coming once per week for several weeks until symptoms are reduced enough to scale back.  This amount of time varies from person to person.  I appreciate your willingness to commit to your health long term, and offer package deals and "homework" to extend the benefits of each session.
